«La princesa de Clèves» is the psychological novel by Madame de Lafayette, published by Bruguera in paperback (216 pages, in Spanish).
Set in the court of Henry II, it tells the story of a young noblewoman who, newly married, is torn between conjugal duty and a passion that society rejects. It portrays virtue, appearances and intrigues of a courtly world, and is considered a precursor of the psychological novel.
The novel was originally published in 1678. This edition, translated by Emma Calatayud, came out in 1982 in the Libro Amigo collection (no. 964).
Recommended for readers of French literary classics and novels of psychological analysis set at court.

Marie-Madeleine Pioche de La Vergne, Comtesse de La Fayette, better known as Madame de La Fayette, was a French writer; she authored La Princesse de Clèves, France's first historical novel and one of the earliest novels in literature.
