«El mal francès» is the contemporary novel by Lluís Maria Todó, published by Destino CAT in hardback (250 pages, in Catalan).
A writer preparing his sixth novel suffers creative block until he finds his 1969 diaries, written during his stay in Pau, where he discovered his homosexuality. From the present he comments with irony on those experiences and the changes in Catalan society over three decades. The narrative oscillates between diary and fictionalized memoir.
Published in March 2006 in Barcelona, it was awarded the Premi Josep Pla 2006 and is part of the L'Àncora collection.
For readers of contemporary fiction in Catalan interested in social evolution, personal memory, and identity narratives.
