Biography

Delia Owens is an American zoologist and author, internationally known for her novel debut Where the Crawdads Sing. Set in the North Carolina marshes, the book became one of the major publishing successes of the 2010s.

She was born in Thomasville, Georgia, on 4 April 1949.

She holds a PhD in animal behaviour from the University of California, Davis.

She spent more than twenty years studying wildlife in sub-Saharan Africa with her then husband Mark Owens.

Where the Crawdads Sing, published in 2018, spent more than 150 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list.

The book was adapted into a 2022 film produced by Reese Witherspoon.
