New edition of Soldados de Salamina, an essential novel of the 21st century, thoroughly revised by the author Javier Cercas and including an enlightening epilogue written by himself. The plot unfolds in late January 1939, during the Spanish Civil War, when a group of Francoist prisoners are shot near the French border. Among them is Rafael Sánchez Mazas, founder and ideologue of the Falange, who manages to escape and hide in the forest. Sixty years later, a novelist discovers this episode and embarks on an investigation to unravel its meaning. Who was Rafael Sánchez Mazas? Who was the soldier who spared his life? And why did he do it? This revolutionary novel has garnered great critical and public acclaim, catapulting Javier Cercas' career as one of the most prestigious novelists in Spanish narrative.
Spanish novelist and essayist, author of Soldiers of Salamis, The Anatomy of a Moment and the Terra Alta trilogy.
