He practised as a lawyer in Barcelona for more than three decades alongside his literary career.
Cathedral of the Sea appeared in 2006 and sold more than five million copies in over 40 languages.
His debut won the Premio Euskadi de Plata, the Qué Leer and the Fundación José Manuel Lara awards.
TV3 and Antena 3 adapted the novel as a 2018 TV series.
The Heirs of the Earth (2016) is the direct sequel to Cathedral of the Sea.
