Born on 19 February 1971 in Fort Washington, Maryland.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid began as an online serial on Funbrain in 2004 before being published as a book in 2007.
The series has sold more than 275 million copies in over 65 languages.
Kinney also writes the Rowley Jefferson spin-off series.
Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2009.
