«La Regenta II» is the second part of the realist novel by Leopoldo Alas Clarín, published by Libsa in paperback (380 pages, in Spanish).
The action takes place in Vetusta, a stand-in for Oviedo, and follows Ana Ozores and Canon Fermín de Pas, who is consumed by a sacrilegious passion for her. Amid social hypocrisy, tedium and provincial intrigues, the novel portrays Spain in the last third of the 19th century.
Second volume of the La Regenta series, from the Clarín Commemorative Library. The work was originally published in 1884.
Recommended for those seeking classics of Spanish literature and 19th-century realist novels.

Leopoldo Enrique García-Alas y Ureña, also known as Clarín, was a Spanish realist novelist and journalist born in Zamora. His inflammatory articles, known as paliques (“chitchat”), as well as his advocacy of liberalism and anti-clericalism, made him a formidable and controversial critical voice. He died in Oviedo.
