«Les estivants» is the play by Maksim Gor'kij, published by Bourgois in paperback (138 pages, in French).
The play brings together a group of intellectuals and comfortably middle-class families during a summer holiday in the countryside. Amid walks, gatherings and conversations, Gorky portrays the disillusionment of characters who question their place in the world: alienation, dissatisfaction and the need to find meaning in life are at the heart of the conflict.
The play was published in 1904. This French edition, from 1994, includes the translation by Macha Zonina and Jean-Pierre Thibaudat.
For readers of theatre and Russian literature who want to read this work by Gorky in French.
