«La japonesa» is the novel by Jordi Coca, published by Proa in hardback (222 pages, in Catalan).
The protagonist and narrator is a boy who has grown up differently from others: he does not see the world or love as the rest do. The novel does not resort to heroic deeds or extreme suffering; his ordinary life captivates through the singularity of his gaze. His inner world, apart from parents and peers, turns him into a silent planet.
It was awarded the Premi Josep Pla in 1992. This Proa edition was published on 17 February 2007.
It is a read for a general audience, especially for those who enjoy intimate stories about lack of communication.
