«El sombrero de tres picos» is the novel by Pedro Antonio de Alarcón, published by Hijos de José Bosch in paperback (158 pages, in Spanish).
In an Andalusian village at the beginning of the 19th century, the miller Uncle Lucas and his wife Frasquita live peacefully until the corregidor, smitten with her, hatches a plan to arrest him. Alarcón combines comic conflict, realism and sainete, with vivid characters and an omniscient, mocking narrator.
First edition of 1979, with introduction, bibliography and notes by Nicolás Miñambres Sánchez. Volume 19 of the Clásicos y ensayos collection.
For literature students and for those who enjoy 19th-century Spanish narrative.

Pedro Antonio de Alarcón y Ariza was a nineteenth-century Spanish novelist, known best for his novel El sombrero de tres picos (1874), an adaptation of popular traditions which provides a description of village life in Alarcón's native region of Andalusia. It was the basis for Hugo Wolf's opera Der Corregidor (1897); for Riccardo Zandonai's opera La farsa amorosa (1933); and Manuel de Falla's ballet The Three-Cornered Hat (1919).
