«El padre de Blancanieves» is the contemporary fiction novel by Belén Gopegui, published by Editorial Anagrama in hardback (352 pages, in Spanish).
A high school teacher provokes, with a complaint, the dismissal of the supermarket delivery man. The man, an immigrant from Ecuador, holds her responsible and demands that she find him another job; otherwise, he will wait for her or her family. The delivery man's pressure sows unease in the teacher's life and reaches her husband, her eldest daughter, a militant in a political organization, and her thirteen-year-old son. The novel reflects on individual responsibility, the middle class, and the boundaries between private life and public space.
It belongs to the Narrativas hispánicas collection, number 419. It is Belén Gopegui's sixth novel, originally published in 2007.
For readers of contemporary fiction and Spanish fiction seeking novels with social reflection and ethical dilemmas.
