La historia, atribuida a Rodrigo de Narváez, alcaide de Antequera, relata la generosidad de un alcaide cristiano hacia Abindarráez, un caballero moro de la familia de los Abencerrajes, al que vence en batalla y luego libera para que pueda asistir a su boda con Jarifa. Esta edición incluye la mejor versión literaria de la novela, publicada en el "Inventario" de Antonio de Villegas (1565), junto con los romances que surgieron sobre los protagonistas. En conjunto, la obra ofrece una lección de generosidad y tolerancia entre culturas y religiones.
