In the infernal days of the Cuban spring, Lieutenant Mario Conde faces the investigation of the murder of a young teacher. As he delves deeper, he discovers a world in decay, where social climbing, influence peddling, drug use, and fraud reveal the dark side of contemporary Cuban society. At the same time, the policeman lives an unexpected romance with Karina, a woman who loves jazz, without imagining the devastating outcome that awaits them.
