«Synonymie und Ersetzbarkeit» is an essay on the philosophy of language by Maik Sühr, published by De Gruyter in hardback (211 pages, in German).
It argues that, apart from limited exceptions, substituting synonyms does not alter the truth value of a sentence, and derives this from the principle of compositionality. It examines attitude attributions and counterexamples, and applies its proposal to the paradox of analysis, with discussions on Frege, cognitive equivalence, and the semantics of quantifiers and causals.
Published in 2016, it is part of the series «Linguistics & Philosophy», of which it is volume 7.
For readers with training in analytic philosophy or theoretical linguistics, interested in semantics, compositionality, and the thought of Frege.
