«Réquiem por un campesino español» is the short novel by Ramón J. Sender, published by Ediciones El País in hardback (138 pages, in Spanish).
In an Aragonese village, the priest Mosén Millán prepares to say a mass for the soul of a young peasant he loved like a son. While waiting, he reconstructs the boy's days in hiding in the mountains and his own mediation, by which he thought to save him. The memory reveals the guilt, complicity, and violence that marked rural Spain.
This edition belongs to El País's Clásicos del Siglo XX collection; the work was originally published as Mosén Millán in 1953.
For readers of twentieth-century Spanish fiction and students approaching the Civil War through literature.
