«Réquiem por un campesino español» is the novel by Ramón J. Sender, published by Booket in paperback (112 pages, in Spanish).
The novel is set in a small Aragonese village during the Spanish Civil War. Before the altar, Mosén Millán recalls the life of Paco, the peasant he loved like a son, and reconstructs the events that led to his death. The narrative reflects on guilt, loyalty and the mechanisms of conscience through the priest's recollection, in a sober and harrowing account of violence and the loss of innocence.
