«La balada del abuelo Palancas» is the novel by Félix Grande Lara, published by Galaxia Gutenberg in hardback (400 pages, in Spanish).
The novel follows three generations of a family from La Mancha during the twentieth century. Grandfather Palancas embodies a slow life and inherited wisdom; the Civil War and the postwar period wound the family but do not break it. Félix Grande builds memorable characters and conveys the horrors of the conflict with a lyricism that blends reality and dreams.
First edition, published in February 2003 in the Narrativa collection of Galaxia Gutenberg. The novel is set in Tomelloso.
It is a work for readers of contemporary Spanish fiction interested in the Civil War, the postwar period and rural life.
