«Im Himmel Tango» is the novel by Elsa Osorio published by Suhrkamp in paperback (504 pages, in German).
Luis and Ana meet in a café in Paris, where he invites her to dance tango. Their shared passion for dance leads them to discover that their families had already crossed paths in Buenos Aires at the beginning of the 20th century, before the dictatorships, when Argentina was a promised land for immigrants. The work weaves together memory, exile and the search for identity.
The work was originally published in 2006 as «Cielo de Tango» and received the Giuseppe Acerbi Prize in 2009; the German translation is by Stefanie Gerhold.
For readers interested in Argentine fiction, historical memory and tango culture.
