«La Capitana» is the historical novel by Argentine writer Elsa Osorio, published by Métailié in paperback (336 pages, in French).
The novel reconstructs the life of Mika Feldman de Etchebéhère, a real woman who travelled through Patagonia, Paris, Berlin and Civil War Spain. Persecuted by Nazism and Stalinism, she was the only woman to become captain of a POUM militia. Osorio combines biography and fiction to fill the gaps with a passionate narrative.
Translation from (Argentine) Spanish by François Gaudry; the work was originally published in 2011 under the title «Mika Capitana».
For readers interested in the Spanish Civil War, historical memory and fictionalised biographies of pioneering women.
