In nineteenth-century Sicily, Giovanni Bovara, a Genoese tax inspector with Sicilian roots, arrives in Vigàta to collect milling taxes. After uncovering a fraud network and being accused of a murder he did not commit, he must use his cunning and the Sicilian dialect of his childhood to escape his enemies.
Published in 2003, it belongs to Salamandra's Narrativa collection and is freely inspired by a study by Leopoldo Franchetti on nineteenth-century Sicily.
For adult readers who enjoy contemporary fiction and stories set in Sicily.
