El Diablo Cojuelo es una novela picaresca del escritor español Luis Vélez de Guevara, publicada en 1641. La obra narra las aventuras de un estudiante llamado Cleofás que, tras liberar al diablo Cojuelo de una botella, es recompensado con la capacidad de ver a través de los tejados de Madrid y observar la vida secreta de sus habitantes. A través de esta perspectiva, la novela ofrece una crítica satírica de la sociedad española del siglo XVII, con sus vicios, costumbres y personajes.

Luis Vélez de Guevara
Luis Vélez de Guevara was a Spanish dramatist and novelist. He was born at Écija and was of Jewish converso descent. After graduating as a sizar at the University of Osuna in 1596, he joined the household of Rodrigo de Castro, Cardinal-Archbishop of Seville, and celebrated the marriage of Philip III in a poem signed Vélez de Santander, a name which he continued to use until some years later.
