Madrid journalist and novelist, El País columnist, author of History of the Transparent King, The Cannibal's Daughter and the Bruna Husky series.
She had tuberculosis and anaemia as a child and spent five years confined at home reading and writing.
She received the Premio Nacional de las Letras Españolas in 2017.
She has written for El País since its launch in 1976 and remains one of its most-read columnists.
Tears in Rain (2011) launches her science-fiction series featuring the replicant detective Bruna Husky.
She also received the Premio Primavera, the Qué Leer Prize and the 2025 Princess of Asturias Communication and Humanities Award.
