Kay Thorpe was born in Sheffield in 1935 and began creating stories to entertain her friends from a very young age.
Before becoming a writer, she held various jobs, including dental nursing and serving in the Women's Royal Air Force.
Her career as a novelist took off after she left work to care for her son, John, in 1964.
She conducted market research at her local library to understand what readers truly valued in romance novels.
Throughout her prolific career, she has published nearly 200 works, including the notable title The Iron Man.
