Biography

Carmen de Burgos y Seguí was a Spanish journalist, writer, translator and women's rights activist. Johnson describes her as a "modern" if not "modernist" writer.

Carmen de Burgos was the first professional female journalist in Spain and the country's first female war correspondent.

Under the famous pseudonym Colombine, she wrote a prolific body of work comprising 87 titles, including novels, short stories, and essays.

She was a tireless activist for women's rights and a key figure in the Spanish suffrage movement.

She used multiple literary identities such as Gabriel Luna, Raquel, or Marianela to explore diverse genres and themes.
