«Welcome to the World, Baby Girl!» is the novel by Fannie Flagg, published by Vintage in English in hardback, with 496 pages.
The story follows Dena Nordstrom, a young television interviewer whose present is emotional chaos and whose past holds a mystery, as the plot travels between rural America of the late 1940s and the aggressive New York media world of the 1970s. With humour and drama, characters such as the endearing broadcaster Neighbour Dorothy appear, in a narrative that gradually reveals family secrets.
First instalment of the Elmwood Springs series. The original title was published in 1998 and the Vintage edition appeared in 1999.
Recommended for readers of contemporary American fiction, especially those who enjoy novels with female protagonists, Southern settings and shifts between past and present.
