In 'Usos amorosos de la postguerra española', Carmen Martín Gaite reconstructs the domestic history of the early years of the Spanish post-war period. Through sentimental advice columns, magazines, and political speeches, the author analyzes how the restriction and rationing imposed by the Franco regime affected the love relationships of the time. The work explores the situation of women, educated to pretend and whose main objective was marriage, as well as that of men, divided between decency and sin. This essay, which constitutes a major work of Spanish essay literature, was awarded the XV Anagrama Essay Prize.
