«The Seduction of Mrs. Pendlebury» is the novel by Margaret Forster, published by Penguin in paperback (288 pages, in English).
The story follows Stanley and Rose, a couple living on Rawlinson Road, Islington, surrounded by younger, brighter families like the Orams. Harassed by age and opulence, their only response to problems is the intense, prickly devotion they show each other.
The novel was originally published in 1974 by Secker and Warburg in London; this Penguin Books edition is from 1978.
Intended for a general audience interested in literary fiction and couple relationships.

Margaret Forster was an English novelist, biographer, memoirist, historian and critic, best known for the 1965 novel Georgy Girl, made into a successful film of the same name, which inspired a hit song by The Seekers. Other successes were a 2003 novel, Diary of an Ordinary Woman, biographies of Daphne du Maurier and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and her memoirs Hidden Lives and Precious Lives.
