«Spanish Traditional Ballads/Romances Viejos Españoles» is the bilingual anthology of traditional ballads prepared by Stanley Appelbaum, in paperback.
The 53 ballads collected in this volume, first published at the beginning of the 16th century, are the Hispanic equivalent of the narrative ballads sung in medieval Europe. These realistic verses evoke kings and saints, and extol Charlemagne, Helen of Troy, Virgil and Lancelot.
The edition was published by Dover Publications in 2003 and consists of 256 pages; the texts appear in Spanish with English translation.
Aimed at students and scholars of Spanish literature, useful for classroom work and home study.
