«Soleils masqués» is the short story collection by David Mourão-Ferreira, published by Editions Viviane Hamy in paperback (160 pages, in French).
The seven stories move in a climate close to the fantastic: loves marked by absence, ambiguous monologues and couples trying to sustain their love in the face of death. The author suggests more than he shows and keeps the reader between reality and dream, with the sea and a dimmed light as a backdrop.
Translation from the Portuguese by M.-C. Vromans and Françoise Laye; epilogue by Eduardo Prado Coelho.
For readers of short fiction and fiction that plays with the fantastic and the unsettling.
