«Os Amantes» is David Mourão-Ferreira's collection of short stories, published by Editorial Presença in paperback (133 pages, in Portuguese).
Stories where love and death cross and blur, with violence and social taboos as a backdrop. The language is highly poetic in its suggestiveness, precise and stripped back, and the stories move between the dreamlike and a historically referenced reality, on the border of the fantastic and the everyday.
Fifth edition published in Lisbon in 1992 in the Colecção Aura (no. 11); includes an author's preface and an epilogue by Eduardo Prado Coelho.
For readers of contemporary Portuguese fiction and short fiction with lyricism, realism and a touch of the fantastic.
