«Romanticismo» is the historical and contemporary fiction novel by Manuel Longares, published by Alfaguara in paperback (440 pages, in Spanish).
After Franco's death, the Madrid bourgeoisie of the Salamanca district tries to adapt to the new times by opening up to other classes and ideologies to preserve its privileges. The novel follows three generations of women from the same family, marked by impossible loves, and thus reviews five decades of Spanish life and the transformation of a world absorbed in its own customs.
Published in 2007 and winner of the Premio de la Crítica de Narrativa Castellana.
For readers of contemporary and historical Spanish fiction who want to glimpse the evolution of Madrid society in the second half of the 20th century.
