In Riseholme, a small and remote village, Lucía has become the queen of social life: she organises musical evenings and parties, and has turned the town into a cultural centre. First instalment of the Mapp and Lucia series, translated by José C. Vales; the original title is Queen Lucia (1920).
For readers who enjoy social satire and humour of manners set in interwar England.
