«Penúltima estación» is the novel by Juana Escabias, published by El Garaje Ediciones in paperback (166 pages, in Spanish).
The novel composes a mosaic of seemingly independent characters and stories, all linked by their relationship with Santiago López, a grey, discontented man who writes short stories to ease his loneliness. One afternoon, an unforeseen event shakes his routine and leads him to question his reality and seek a new direction.
Published in 1997, it was Juana Escabias's first novel (Madrid, 1963). It is part of the Narrativa collection.
It will appeal to readers of contemporary Spanish fiction who appreciate fragmentary or choral narrative structures.
