«Opus Nigrum» is the historical novel by Marguerite Yourcenar, published by RBA in 1993 in paperback (376 pages, in Spanish).
The novel's title alludes to the alchemical phase in which matter is separated and dissolved. The novel follows Zeno, a 16th-century physician and alchemist, in his quest for knowledge in an era of clash between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. To create Zeno, Yourcenar drew inspiration from Paracelsus, Michael Servetus, Campanella, and Leonardo da Vinci.
