«One Hundred Years of Solitude» is Gabriel García Márquez's magic realism novel, published by Penguin Books in paperback (432 pages, in English).
The novel follows seven generations of the Buendía family in the fictional town of Macondo, amid wars, wonders and disasters. It blends magic realism and political reality to offer a choral portrait of Colombian life, with secrets encoded in a manuscript that only an Aureliano Buendía will be able to decipher.
English translation by Gregory Rabassa, in the Penguin Modern Classics collection. The original work, «Cien años de soledad», dates from 1967; the author received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982.
For readers of literary classics and magic realism, as well as those who enjoy family sagas and Latin American narrative.

Gabriel José García Márquez was a Colombian writer and journalist, known affectionately as Gabo or Gabito throughout Latin America. Considered one of the most significant authors of the 20th century, particularly in the Spanish language, he was awarded the 1972 Neustadt International Prize for Literature and the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature. He pursued a self-directed education that resulted in leaving law school for a career in journalism. From early on he showed no inhibitions in his criticism of Colombian and foreign politics. In 1958, he married Mercedes Barcha Pardo; they had two sons, Rodrigo and Gonzalo.
