«Narrenleben» is the historical novel by Hans Joachim Schädlich, published by Rowohlt Verlag GmbH in hardback (174 pages, in German).
Two eighteenth-century court jesters star in the novel. Joseph Fröhlich, a miller from Styria, is an adviser and jester in Dresden: he enjoys privileges but is a plaything of the elector. Peter Prosch, a poor Tyrolean, travels the courts of southern Germany and suffers cruel humiliations. In a fictional letter, he reflects on the dignity of those who endure.
Work published on 6 March 2015; volume 12 of 14 in the series «Schädlich: Gesammelte Werke».
