«Mortal y rosa» is the novel by Francisco Umbral, published by Destino in paperback (206 pages, in Spanish).
The author starts from the death of his son to compose a long monologue in which childhood memories and reflections on pain, memory and the fragility of life are interwoven. Writing thus becomes the channel that transforms personal tragedy into an experience that soothes and liberates.
It belongs to the Destinolibro collection of the publisher Destino, number 65; its first edition in this collection dates from 1979.
For readers of contemporary Spanish fiction seeking a literary reflection on grief and memory.
Francisco Alejandro Pérez Martínez, better known as Francisco Umbral, was a Spanish journalist, novelist, biographer and essayist.
