«Moi, Jean Gabin» is the autobiographical novel by Goliarda Sapienza, published by Le Tripode Editions in paperback (155 pages, in French).
In 1930s Catania, a girl leaves the cinema fascinated after watching «Pépé le Moko» and decides to imitate Jean Gabin: his bearing, his gaze, his rebelliousness. Written at the end of Goliarda Sapienza's life, this autobiographical tale turns that childhood obsession into a hymn to freedom and dreams, in a Sicily marked by fascism.
Text in French, translated from Italian, published in 2017. Goliarda Sapienza is also the author of «L'Art de la joie».
For readers of Italian literature and autobiographical narratives with a historical and cinematic backdrop.
