«Miau» is a realist novel by Spanish writer Benito Pérez Galdós, published by Alianza in paperback (376 pages, in Spanish).
Set in Madrid in the late nineteenth century, the novel follows Ramón Villaamil, a civil servant who has been dismissed and tries to keep his post in a corrupt administration. Galdós also portrays Villaamil's family: three women who aspire to live beyond their means and a sickly child, in a critique of ambition, poverty and bureaucracy.
