«Maniobres privades» is the short story collection by Valentí Puig, published by Edicions 62 in paperback (192 pages, in Catalan).
Sixteen narratives about human fragility, with characters such as a forty-year-old adulterer, a prostitute in love who works without charging, and a snobbish mythomaniac. Puig portrays with scepticism the cracks, evasions and transgressions hidden in moments of transient happiness.
Published in 1999 in the El Balancí collection, it received the Premi de la Crítica de Narrativa Catalana.
For readers of contemporary fiction who enjoy short stories of psychological and social observation.
