Synopsis of Luciérnagas
Luciérnagas es una novela de Ana María Matute ambientada en Barcelona durante la Guerra Civil Española. La historia sigue a un grupo de adolescentes, niños que se ven obligados a madurar rápidamente debido a la guerra. Entre ellos, Soledad, una niña de familia acomodada cuyo padre es perseguido por el gobierno republicano, su hermano Eduardo y otros niños que intentan sobrevivir en una Barcelona asediada. A pesar de las dificultades, Sol encuentra consuelo en la amistad y el amor, descubriendo que incluso en tiempos de guerra, es posible resistir con el apoyo de los demás. La novela explora temas como la amistad, el amor y la fraternidad en contraposición a la familia, y cómo los niños pueden encontrar esperanza y resistencia en medio de la adversidad. La obra fue finalista del premio Nadal en 1949, aunque no se publicó la versión autorizada hasta 1955 debido a la censura.

Ana María Matute Ausejo was a Spanish writer and member of the Real Academia Española. In 1959, she received the Premio Nadal for Primera memoria. The third woman to receive the Cervantes Prize for her literary oeuvre, she is considered one of the foremost novelists of the posguerra, the period immediately following the Spanish Civil War.
