«Lionel Asbo: El estado de Inglaterra» is the satirical novel by Martin Amis, published by Editorial Anagrama in paperback, with 360 pages in Spanish.
The story follows Desmond Pepperdine, a sensitive teenager and voracious reader who grows up in a sordid London suburb with his grandmother and his uncle Lionel Asbo, a small-time criminal who has just won the lottery. The sudden money turns Lionel into tabloid fodder and triggers a ferocious satire of contemporary England, its classes, its press and its contradictions.
The novel was nominated for the Europese Literatuurprijs in 2013 and is part of Anagrama's Compactos collection, translated by Jesús Zulaika.
A read for those seeking contemporary fiction with transgressive British humour and an incisive look at English social reality.
