«Le Remplaçant» is the contemporary novel by Agnès Desarthe, published by POINTS in paperback (96 pages, in French).
The narrator is a child whose real grandfather died in Auschwitz in 1942. Bouz, Boris, Baruch, known as Triple B, takes his place as a substitute grandfather: a simple, gentle, almost ordinary man who survived and whose only merit is loving life and telling stories. Now that Triple B is too old, the narrator must tell his story.
«Le Remplaçant» won the Prix Version Fémina-Virgin Megastore 2009; the POINTS edition was published on 19 August 2010.
For readers of contemporary French fiction with an interest in memory, grief and transmission between generations.
