«Le prix du danger et autres nouvelles» is Robert Sheckley's collection of science fiction short stories, in J'ai lu paperback (250 pages, in French).
Nine science fiction stories with absurd societies: live television where lives are at stake, women in stasis, official permits to kill for relief, and funeral homes conspiring against immortality. The common thread is ironic humour and runaway logic.
The French edition dates from 1999 and belongs to J'ai lu's S-F collection; on some covers the title appears as «Le prix du danger et autres récits».
A good starting point for those seeking short tales with ironic humour and absurd worlds.
Robert Sheckley was an American writer. First published in the science-fiction magazines of the 1950s, his many quick-witted stories and novels were famously unpredictable, absurdist, and broadly comical.
