«Le jeu de l'amour et du hasard» is the stage comedy by Pierre de Marivaux, published by Hachette in paperback, in French.
Silvia pretends to be her maid Lisette to deal with the suitor chosen for her; Dorante, without knowing it, has done the same with his servant Arlequin. The courtship thus becomes a game of appearances in which everyone believes they are deceiving the other and only the spectator sees the misunderstanding.
The work dates from 1730. This Hachette edition (1976) includes chronological concordances, notes, questionnaires and a thematic reading prepared by Roger-Marcel Lauverjat.
A work commonly read in the French school system, with educational apparatus for students and readers of classical theatre.
