«La Huida» is the crime novel by Jim Thompson, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardback (193 pages, in Spanish).
The charming, unscrupulous and highly calculating thief Doc McCoy leaves prison and plans to rob a bank in a small Texas town with his wife Carol and with Rudy Torrento, a violent and unpredictable character. The heist goes well, but the escape to California becomes a nightmare: the police are chasing them, and Torrento, whom Doc believes he has killed, seeks revenge.
The novel went unnoticed at the time until Sam Peckinpah adapted it into a film in 1972: a road movie starring Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw that established it as a classic.
James Myers Thompson was an American novelist and screenwriter, known for his hardboiled crime fiction.
