«La fuente de la edad» is the novel by Luis Mateo Díez, published by Círculo de Lectores in paperback (279 pages, in Spanish).
The action takes place in a provincial city in the 1950s, marked by hardship and oblivion. A group of singular confraternity members, as inclined to drink and esotericism as they are alien to penance, embark on a wild nocturnal adventure in search of a legendary fountain from which a canon of prodigious memory was said to have drunk.
It won the Premio de la Crítica de Narrativa Castellana in 1986 and the Premio Nacional de Narrativa in 1987.
For readers of contemporary Spanish fiction who appreciate ironic humour and the blend of reality and fantasy.
