Set in a hostile city ravaged by disease, the narrative follows this figure, part lover and part cook, who ends up becoming a vengeful angel against the world's pettiness. The story is inspired by the first asymptomatic carrier of the typhus bacillus.
The novel belongs to the Narrativa collection, number 5. The work was originally published in 1982 under the title «Die Ballade von der Typhoid Mary», translated into Spanish by José Aníbal Campos.
