«La aventura equinoccial de Lope de Aguirre» is the historical novel by Ramón J. Sender, published by Folio in paperback (336 pages, in Spanish).
The novel recreates the sixteenth-century Spanish expedition that travels the Amazon River in search of El Dorado. The protagonist, Lope de Aguirre, is a rebellious, resentful and cruel conquistador who defies other captains and the Crown; the narrative follows his growing paranoia and shows how ambition and madness lead him to violence and ruin.

A work for fans of Spanish historical fiction and sixteenth-century exploration chronicles.
