«Instantanés» is Claudio Magris's book of essays and micro-stories, published by Gallimard in paperback (192 pages, in French).
Claudio Magris brings together short texts born from a seen scene, an everyday event or a news item. Most take place in Trieste and its surroundings; others take us to Scandinavia, India, Moscow, New York or northern Canada. They are vignettes on human relationships, the twentieth century and contemporary life, with ethical and philosophical resonance and subtle humour.
Work originally published in Italian as «Istantanee» in 2016; this 2018 French edition, in the «Domaine italien» collection, is translated by Jean and Marie-Noëlle Pastureau.
A work for those seeking the short essay and Italian literature, with observations of daily life and philosophical background.
